I.E.C. stands for International English and Culture.
The I.E.C. program at Seiko Gakuen Kindergarten is a partial immersion program, where instructional time is divided equally between Japanese and English. The program helps pupils to become familiar with the English language and other cultures, while continuing their regular lessons. Japanese culture and traditions are also celebrated.
The goal is for pupils to acquire a desire to learn a second language and build a solid foundation for their future academic life.
English lessons are given on a daily basis.
Each grade has a full-time native English teacher, available throughout the day.
Kindergarten is the first step away from home. Having the same teacher for each lesson builds a closer bond between teacher and child, increasing familiarity and the confidence of the child. When the teacher doesn't speak the same language, a growing desire to communicate manifests. Teachers are also far better equipped to note individuals' progress and give extra support where required.
English learning is not only through lessons focusing on the language itself. Both Japanese and English speaking teachers nurture each child's creative potential and promote self-expression through a wide variety of arts and crafts, music and dance. During school activities and events; during playtime and even at the swimming pool, children learn English indirectly.
